‘Do not mention on social mia (for example on Twitter or Facebook) that you are away. Thieves are also watching’. A message that will be repeat frequently in the past few days and the coming weeks. A sensible tip of course. Last week Jarno Duursma gave the burglars a little push in the back with his manual on social mia for the Burglar . But do burglars actually use social mia to select their target?

Two years ago, Frankwatching already wrote about this, because there was no evidence for this assumption. New research by consultancy  latvia phone number list VDMMP provides some nuance in the assumption that burglars use social mia.

Burglars and social mia

In practice, it turns out to be difficult to find a suitable home via social mia in which to break in to your heart’s content. The research shows that 77% of social mia users protect their information well. This high percentage is one of the explanations that burglars are more likely to get their loot in a traditional way than with a little help from Facebook or Twitter.

Another explanation follows from an experiment

A  conduct with two groups of police officers in training. One group of officers us social mia to search for suitable homes to break into, marketing list   while the other group ‘simply’ went out on the streets. The search via social mia appears to be very time-consuming because the actual address is difficult or impossible to find. So even though we find many tweets on social mia, finding the correct names and address details is more difficult than many people think.

This makes the second method (going out on the streets) still the most profitable. A final nuance is that the burgla less targeted than paid lists r does a final check on location before breaking into a house. After all, social mia often does not state whether someone is looking after the house (or how he can enter the house most easily). Fokke and Sukke therefore know exactly what to tweet on holiday to make their house appear habitable.
